DESCRIPTION:For more details please see here – https://www.hastingsphilorchestra.co.uk/28th-january \nFeaturing – \nWAGNER Tannhäuser Overture\nBEAL Symphony No. 10 (World Premiere)\n-Interval-\nHARRISON Bredon Hill\nRACHMANINOFF Piano Concerto No 3 \nOver one hundred years ago Hastings was proud to support a professional orchestra\, which regularly performed high-quality classical music concerts with international soloists under the baton of renowned conductors. \nJulius Harrison (composer of Bredon Hill) became conductor of the Hastings Municipal Orchestra in 1930. In Hastings he ran an annual festival and\, during the summer season\, conducting up to twelve concerts a week. He raised the standard of the orchestra to challenge that of its south-coast rival\, the Bournemouth Municipal Orchestra\, securing the services of guest artists including the conductors Sir Henry Wood and Sir Adrian Boult\, pianists such as Clifford Curzon and Benno Moiseiwitsch and singers including George Baker. When the Hastings orchestra was disbanded after the outbreak of the Second World War Harrison became director of music at Malvern College (1940-2). \nBredon Hill\, was composed just after Harrison left his Hastings post. \n
