Love Hastings Newsletter December 2017

We would like to wish all our members and partners a merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year.
The Town Centre has a fantastic festive atmosphere with high levels of footfall, and we hope that all businesses are benefiting from it.

Please note the BID office will be closed from 5pm on Friday 22nd December until 9am Tuesday 2nd January when new BID Manager John Bownas will start.

Cost-saving Initiatives
The Board of Directors has agreed to work with Meercat Associates to provide cost-saving advice and plans for businesses in the BID area. Discussions are still underway, but we’re hoping to launch the cost-saving initiatives with businesses in the new year. Further updates will be available soon.

Hastings Police
Last week Hastings Police arrested 4 People for conspiracy to supply Class A Drugs.
They were stopped in Hastings & found with £10,000 worth of Heroin & Crack Cocaine. They are now waiting to appear at Lewes Crown Court.
Hastings Police have agreed to update us on key progress and stories relevant to Hastings Town Centre, so we can share it with the businesses and our partners. On this occasion, it is hoped that by stopping the movement and supply of such large quantities of class A drugs, drug-related crime in the town may decrease.

Public Relations, Marketing and Communications Committee
The Public Relations, Marketing and Communications Committee was set up to look after event funding and marketing of the BID and Hastings Town Centre. At the recent Board Meeting, a report was given to the Board of Directors. A summary of the report is below:

Hanging baskets were installed on Queens Road in May 2017 at a cost of £4,020.

The BID installed more Christmas lights than ever before, with lights reaching the top end of Queens Road and covering the whole of Wellington Place, Robertson Street and the bottom end of Cambridge Road. The Christmas lights came in under budget at £8,859. The Committee plans to extend the Christmas lights to other areas in future years, dependant on safety (stress testing of lamp posts) and budget. The remainder of this year’s budget will be transferred to cost-saving initiatives and next year’s Christmas light budget.

The Committee has supported 5 large events in Hastings Town Centre since July this year. All these events benefit the up and coming White Rock and America Ground area.
£5,300 – skydivers sponsorship, Pirate Day
£1,000 – Storylines, Rock Alley, Claremont
£300 – Hastings Pride procession
£1,000 – Storytelling Festival, large installation in Robertson Street
£3,007.23 – Santa’s Arrival Parade (budgeted £3,500)
To date the BID has spent £10,607 on event funding, with a total matched fund of £70,052, equating to a 66% return on investment.
The Committee encourages event funding applications for events that benefit the Town Centre. If you are holding an event, big or small, please email us for an application form.

The Love Hastings website is still under construction in places, however, is available for the public to use. Further updates will be made in the next financial year.

Business Crime Reduction Partnership (BCRP) Report to the Board of Directors
The Board has been asked to look at future options for the Business Support Warden. The options are; one warden with CSAS powers or two wardens with or without CSAS powers. This will be discussed at the March Board Meeting.

Work has started on DISC (security and reporting system), manually inputting the data and setting up the profile of the site with success. There is another 4-5 days of work to be completed before it’s ready to be launched.

The results of the Anti-Social Behaviour Survey have been collated. Once the Safer Hastings Partnership has reviewed the results, they will be available to businesses.

Hastings and St Leonards Society
The Society has been set up to assist organisations in the borough concerned with heritage and civic matters with their work.

The Society commenced enrolling members in October, and are currently offering an introductory subscription rate to cover membership until the end of 2018. Details of membership can be found on their website.
