East Sussex County Council Libraries Consultation

ESCC Libraries Consultation

If you are not yet aware, there is currently a public consultation running on the County Council’s latest proposals for public libraries countywide. This consultation closes on 14 December. There is a questionnaire to complete, with space for adding your personal comments. You can pick up a copy of the consultation document at any public library in the County, or complete and submit the document on-line.

Of immediate local concern is the intention to close Ore Library. An action group has formed to fight this, and there is an e-petition ‘Save Ore Library’ to sign up to until 30 November.

We are currently in contact with ESCC about the re-opening of Hastings Public Library, which is now scheduled for Spring. Of particular concern is the local studies research material. When the library was closing for redevelopment, lots of interesting and important items went to The Keep (ESCC Record Office), and also to Eastbourne and Rye public libraries. We are asking what – if anything! – will return. We hope to have answers soon, and will include these in our newsletter for December.
