Get Hastings Reading – ‘Lost Words’ trail

Graeme Quinnell of the Literacy Trust has asked H & St. L Society to circulate the following information:

“As part of the Get Hastings Reading campaign we run events to engage children, young people and families in literacy themed activities from time to time. An event we are planning for late spring and summer this year is a ‘Lost Words’ trail inspired by the 2018 book ‘The Lost Words’ by Robert Macfarlane. The trail
would have around 10 stopping points along the seafront with a visual display relating to 1 or 2 words at each point. I wondered if through your links the Hastings & St Leonards Society might have
some suggestions for interesting and evocative words that have fallen out of use and that may look good with a related illustration placed alongside? It would be great if the words have a Hastings specific origin or usage though this is not absolutely necessary.”

If you have any suggestions, please contact us ( hstlsoc@gmail.com ), or you can contact Graeme directly
( graeme.quinnell@literacytrust.org.uk ) and mention that you heard of his request from H & St. L Society.
