Public Meeting on 6 March at the White Rock Hotel – St Leonards Parish Church

St Leonards Parish Church – Public Meeting on 6 March at the White Rock Hotel

Early last year a ‘stakeholders group’ was set up to address concerns about the former parish church, now declared redundant on account of instability in the surrounding land. The group will consider possible uses to which the building might be put as a community asset under a charitable organisation if the land can be stabilised.

Historic England list the church (by Adrian Gilbert Scott) and the nearby Burton tomb as having ‘group value’. Both lie within conservation area 04 (St Leonards West). Thanks are due to the West St Leonards Forum for originating the progress made so far. A full site visit was recently made by an expert team. Severe pressure is evident in particular on the retaining wall of the land almost immediately adjacent to the east flank of the church.

To keep members and the wider public up-to-date with progress, a meeting will be held at the White Rock Hotel (Seafront Room) at 6.30 pm on Monday 6th March.
Please note that we owe this facility to the generosity of the hotel. Admission to the meeting is free but use may of course be made of the bar, which provides a range of drinks, light meals and sandwiches.

It will be helpful, especially regarding seating arrangements, if you can let us know if you plan to attend. Please email us at: hstlsoc@gmail.com
